RHINO RIVER CAMP KINDANI – KENYA

NEW AFRICAN TERRITORIES ARE DELIGHTED TO REPRESENT & TO WELCOME RHINO RIVER CAMP TO THE “NEW & UNUSUAL” GROUP OF CAMPS & LODGES.

A new retreat in the most diverse and scenic Park of Kenya, Rhino River Camp is set on a privately owned 80 acres of wilderness with direct access to Meru National Park.  The real “Born Free” country, the famous haunt of Joy and George Adamson & home of Elsa the lioness. Meru encompasses many different habitats being traversed by thirteen perennial rivers flowing from the Nyambeni Range in an otherwise dry area.

The eight luxury canvas cottages of Rhino River Camp are built on wooden decks suspended among the trees of the pristine riverine forest edging Kindani stream. The canvas cottages are large, and set on decks at different levels blending with the very features of the trees. Each room has a view over the river and its huge raffia palms, yellow fever trees, and tamarinds ensuring a private and peaceful retreat in the most tranquil & romantic setting imaginable. There is a spacious central area which hosts the dining, the bar, and a relaxing, reading place. The swimming pool is nearby, built along the stream, and surrounded by comfortable wood decking. A separate canvas cottage is devoted to massages and other spa treatments.

Specially arranged 4x4 vehicles are at disposal for game viewing into the Park. Literally at a walking distance from Rhino River Camp, guests enter the rhino area of Meru N.P. and are assured to watch some of the many white or black rhinos roaming freely. The game drive continues to the discovery of the abundant wildlife of Meru and its astonishing and most different landscapes mirroring the many diverse habitats encompassed by this unique conservation area. Lions, elephants, cheetahs are likely to be seen on most game drives. Leopards need a little more patience and a bit of luck. A plethora of smaller predators and herbivores are to be seen regularly. Among them are such species as reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, and gerenuks which are absent from most other Parks. Invariably all of this can be enjoyed completely alone, far from the minibus crowds. This is why Meru N.P. is affectionately known as “The Last Frontier”.

Birdlife is unbelievably abundant and the keen birder will not be disappointed watching some of the 600 species recorded in the Park while on a game drive or walking through nature trails specially carved through the many paths of Rhino River Camp itself. Our own guides are certified KPSGA professionals and, apart from being excellent “spotters”, they can satisfy every guest’s curiosity about all aspects of this diverse wildlife heaven.

Other activities that are arranged by Rhino River Camp include bush walks, luxuriously set bush meals, biking to the nearby “perfect” small crater which can be climbed to discover its internal small forest, visit to the tiny and sparse villages of the peaceful and friendly Meru people, or just enjoy the fine cuisine back at the camp which is prepared by chefs renowned by the Kenyan safari connoisseurs.

The camp is environmentally friendly using solar and hydro power for most of its needs. Moreover there is a scheme to make the surrounding community benefit from a percentage of the revenues of the lodge.

The Camp can be reached by car in a perfectly sealed tarmac road arriving up to the Park’s main gate or by scheduled/chartered flights landing inside the Park only 40 minutes (game!) drive from Rhino River Camp.
