A
Skeleton Coast Safari is very special;
you will experience a fascinating
bird’s-eye view of shipwreck remains
along the coast, diverse and
ever-changing geological formations and
the refuges of desert-dwelling animals
such as the endangered black rhino and
desert-adapted elephant. These unique
aerial adventures start and end in
Windhoek and easily slot into any
exploration of Namibia.
Day 1 - Windhoek/Huab
Valley
This morning you will
meet your pilot/guide who will be with
you for the next four days. Fly to the
Skeleton Coast via Conception Bay –
famous for the Eduard Bholen shipwreck.
Renowned for treacherous currents and
numerous shipwrecks, the Skeleton Coast
earned its name by reputation. From
there you head north over the Cape Cross
seal colony, before heading inland
through the dunes and canyons to the
moonscape landscape of the Ugab
formations before landing in the Huab
Valley at Kuidas Camp.
Day 2 - Huab
Valley/Huarusib Valley
Spend the morning
exploring amazing lava and rock
formations, rock art and an incredible
variety of flora and fauna including the
desert adapted Welwitschia plants. After
lunch fly along the Skeleton to Terrace
Bay in the Skeleton Coast Park. The most
prominent shipwrecks along this part of
the coast are the Montrose and
Henrietta. At the coast access the dunes
by Land Rover. Visit the beach with its
profusion of multi-coloured pebbles
consisting of agate, lava, granite and
quartz. Drive into the Huarusib Valley
and overnight at Purros Camp.
Day 3 - Huarusib
Valley/Kunene River
During the morning’s
exploration drive along the Hoarusib
Valley to visit a settlement of the
nomadic Himba people. If you are lucky
you may be privileged to spot a desert
adapted elephant along the way. Continue
north to the Hartmann Valley and the
Kunene River Valley - a sparkling strip
of green in a barren desert backdrop.
Tonight will be spent at Kunene River
Camp, arriving late afternoon there will
be time to relax before dinner.
Day 4 - Kunene
River/Windhoek
Enjoy a morning
exploring the Kunene riverbanks by boat,
watch out for crocodiles and some of the
varied bird species of the area.
Following lunch at the camp you take
your final fight back to Eros Airport in
Windhoek, arriving late afternoon.
