Mount Kilimanjaro / Arusha National Park
/ Mount Meru / Mto Wa Mbu /
Serengeti / Ngorongoro / Crater
Highlands
14 days - 13 nights
The United Republic of Tanzania, in East
Africa, was born out of the unification
of Tanganyika and
Zanzibar in 1964, which had been
respectively independent since 1961 and
1963. The highest summit
on the African continent, Mount
Kilimanjaro, is in this country,
culminating at 5895m.
Tanzania’s attraction is exceptional
and unanimously recognised. With over
100,000 km of reserves
and national parks consecrated to the
protection of wildlife, fabulous sites
such as the Serengeti
and the famous Ngorongoro Crater, the
crystalline waters of the Indian Ocean
and the historical
and charming Zanzibar, Tanzania offers
the guarantee of an exceptional,
unforgettable holiday.
Furthermore, Tanzania is often dubbed
‘The Peaceful Country’ due to its
people. Symbolising a
traditional Africa, they are at times
surprising but always warm and welcoming
to visitors to their
country.
ITINERARY
Day 1 : ARUSHA
Welcome at Kilimandjaro Airport and
transfer to Arusha (1h). Installation at
Outpost 2* in
town.
Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 : ARUSHA / MOUNT KILIMANJARO
After the breakfast, transfer to the
majestic Mount Kilimanjaro (2h).
The frozen peak of a continent crushed
with heat, Mount Kilimanjaro symbolizes
Africa
in the minds of westerners. This unique
ecosystem encompasses all climates.
Although
situated just 3° (330 km) south of the
equator, it is covered in snow. The
appeal of
Kilimanjaro lies as much in its unique
and exceptional natural beauty as in the
personal
challenge that it represents – a
deeper sense of self-awareness is
achieved through the
effort of surpassing one’s limits and
conquering this monument. In 1989 it was
officially
declared a World Heritage site. On
Independence Day, 8th December 1961, a
flame
representing liberty was lit at the
highest point and baptised Uhuru Peak,
or ‘Liberty
Peak ‘, at 5895 m.
You will go for a hike in a tropical
climate where coffee and banana
plantations can be
found on the lower reaches, while the
upper stages comprise dense forest,
mousse and
lichen.
Picnic lunch or in a local restaurant.
Dinner and night at the camp (campsite
of Marangu Hotel 3*).
You can spend one day trek on the
Marangu route, with a night in a hut, on
request.
Day 3 : MOUNT KILIMANJARO / ARUSHA
NATIONAL PARK
Departure in the morning for Arusha
National Park (2h). First contact with
the wildlife.
This little park comprises three
distinct ‘zones’: the Ngurdoto
Crater, also known as the ‘mini
Ngorongoro’, the shallow, alkaline
Momella lake that is fed by underground
streams, and the
spectacular Mount Meru, culminating at
4565m.
You start a walking safari with an armed
botanist ranger (2 to 3h).
Picnic lunch. Dinner and night at the
camp inside the park.
Day 4 : ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK / MOUNT
MERU
After the breakfast, direction to Mount
Meru for a hike in the forest (1h). You
will visit the
tribe Wa Arusha and the waterfalls.
Mount Meru (4566 m) is a volcano and the
second highest mountain in Tanzania. Its
slopes rise
up at incredibly steep angles. It is
partially shattered, as its east face
was blasted away
during an eruption at some point in its
past. Though Meru's summit is rocky and
barren, its
slopes are highly fertile, with many
streams and thick forests. There is an
exceptional view of
the collapsed crater from the summit.
The presence of an armed ranger is
necessary due to
the abundance of wildlife (elephants,
buffalo ...).
Picnic lunch. Dinner and night at the
camp inside the park.
Day 5 : MOUNT MERU / MTO WA MBU
Transfer to Mto Wa Mbu (2h). On the way
to the park, you visit the market of Mto
Wa
Mbu village, which is famous for its
variety of fruits.
Hike to Miwaleni waterfalls and Papyrus
lake tour: This walk starts 5 km north
of Mto wa Mbu,
where the Miwaleni waterfall that falls
down from the Rift Valley has created a
green oasis.
Passing some small streams you walk in
the direction of the Papyrus lake, from
where the
Rangi people collect the materials for
the mats and baskets they make. On the
way you can
see rice farming and visit Sandawe
families who still make the traditional
bows and arrows for
hunting. The walk can be extended with a
climb to the waterfall at the Rift
Valley.
The rapid population growth has turned
this village into a melting pot of
cultures. Nowhere
else in Tanzania have so many tribes
gathered in such a small area, and many
people have still
kept their traditions.
Picnic lunch. Dinner and night at the
camp, about 10 mn from the village.
Day 6 : MTO WA MBU / SERENGETI
Transfer to the Serengeti (5h). After a
possible stop at the Olduvaï
Gorges, where human
fossil fragments dating back
approximately two million years were
discovered in 1959, we
reach the famous natural reserve that is
the Serengeti.
Game drive on the way as well as the
afternoon in the park.
The Serengeti is one of the biggest and
most spectacular parks in Africa,
stretching all the
way to Lake Victoria, and has one of the
largest concentrations of animals in the
world.
This magnificent game reserve holds one
of the largest concentrations of
predators,
including lions, leopards, hyenas, and
cheetahs. The annual migration of herds
of
wildebeest and zebra between November
and June is a breathtaking natural
spectacle.
Day 7 : SERENGETI
Morning and afternoon game drive in the
reserve.
Picnic lunch. Dinner and night at the
camp.

camp.
Day 9 : NGORONGORO CRATER
Early morning descent into the crater.
With a diameter of 20 km and a depth of
600 m, this is the largest unbroken
caldera in the
world. A capital the size of Paris would
fir inside this enormous crater. The
concentration of
animals inside this fortress gives one
the sense of a natural paradise on
earth. It is regarded
as the eighth wonder of the world.
Game drive on the floor of the crater
and around lake Magadi.
Picnic lunch. Dinner and night at the
camp.
Day 10 : NGORONGORO / CRATER
HIGHLANDS, NAINOKANOKA
The Crater Highlands is a range of
extinct volcanoes to the north and south
of Ngorongoro
that rise steeply from the side of the
Great Rift Valley in Northern Tanzania.
They are
several impressive peaks, with steep
escarpments, crater lakes, dense forests
and grassy
ridges, streams and waterfalls. It's
also home to many Maasaï people who
have grazed cattle
on the grassy hillside here for hundreds
of years. This part of the highlands is
an excellent
walking area.
The transfer from Ngorongoro to
Nainokanoka is about 1h.
Hike around the village of Nainokanoka
(.
Picnic lunch. Dinner and night at the
camp.
Day 11 : CRATER HIGHLANDS,
