Particularly numerous are the dainty springbox – of which there are at least 30,000! Etosha National Park has a good infrastructure – well-maintained gravel roads lead to the waterholdes, where game viewing is at its best

Day 03 Opuwo, Swakopmund Breakfast & Lunch

After breakfast at the Lodge, you will be transferred to an airstrip for your charter flight to Opuwo and embard upon an excursion to the Himba Village.

Kaokoland is home to some 6000 Himba. These friendly people are closely related to the Herero and speak the same language. The Himba are herdsmen, breeding mainly cattle and goats while leading a semi-nomadic life. They migrate with their herds to the different waterholes from season to season. For the Himba, clothes, hair and jewellery hold a special meaning and form an important part of their tradition and culture. The proud Himba women spend many hours on beauty care and grooming every day. They cream their whole body with a mixture of rancid butterfat and ochre, scented with the aromatic resin of the Omuzumba shrub. The cream lends the body an intense reddish glow, which reflects the Himba ideal of beauty.

After lunch, you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your flight to Swakopmund.

Upon arrival at Swakopmund Airport you will be transferred to your accommodation for the next two nights, Villa Margherita. A charming boutique hotel as well as a National Historical Monument, Villa Margherita is the former Schwietering Haus built in 1908.

Schools of dolphins swim alongside the boat, and seals frequently jump aboard for a visit. A late breakfast of fresh Walvis Bay Oysters and light snacks served with sparkling wine is enjoyed on board. Return to Walvis Bay Yacht Club at approximately 12H30.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the Villa, before being collected for a “Living Desert Tour” at 08h00.

Surrounding Swakopmund is a huge sand dune belt which supports an impressive wealth of fauna and flora, mostly hidden from the world. The Living Desert Tour introduces visitors to the bustling world beneath the sand dunes in this area, via close and informative encounters with chameleons, geckos, sand-diving lizards, tok-tokkies and even poisonous snakes! The Living Desert Adventure guides will share their knowledge about each desert animal, including adaptations and design for survival in the desert. Great care is taken to ensure each animal is returned safely to its home.

The tour ends at the Swakopmund Airport in time for the charter flight to Sossusvlei, and your accommodation at Sossusvlei Lodge.

This luxurious desert resort was built with adobe bricks typical of Arabian villages and tents similar to those of the Bedouin. Guests can have a unique swim in the desert by splashing in the clear, cool pool. All rooms and the bar have a desert view.
