The Great Migration

(4 days / 3 nights)

DAY 1
On arrival at Arusha connect with your flight to Seronera in the Serengeti departing at 8am. Flying time is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Upon arrival you will be met by our representative and transferred to our partner camp Mbuzi Mawe tented camp by open 4WD vehicle and enjoy a game drive en route. Arrive at camp with time to settle in before lunch.

Mbuzi Mawe is scenically located in a glade, known as ‘the place of the
klipspringer' (mbuzi mawe). The camp lies in one of the annual migration
corridors for over one million wildebeest, half a million zebras and gazelles in the heart of the Serengeti.
The camp has just 16 spacious en suite tents scattered around the centralmess tent with wifi and a scenic safari bar and gift shop.

This afternoon venture out into the Serengeti in search of the big 5 or the Great Migration (May - July & Oct – mid December).
Every year 1.5 million wildebeest migrate from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara followed by hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelle and other plains game in search of fresh grazing pastures.
Return to your camp this evening for dinner before retiring to your spacious tent.

Meal Plan: lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp (partner camp)

DAY 2
Awake early this morning for a hearty breakfast before leaving for your next destination Sanctuary Kusini in the southern Serengeti.
Your drive today will take you through the centre of the Serengeti National park where Lion, Elephant and buffalo are regularly seen and even the elusive Leopard makes an appearance. Enjoy a picnic lunch after an eventful morning of game viewing before continuing past rocky outcrops on vast plains as you journey further south. The open plains spread out as far as the eye can see so it’s no surprise that the name Serengeti comes from the Maasai language meaning, “endless plains”. The park itself covers 14,763 sq. kilometres, making it one of the world’s largest wildlife sanctuaries and hosts one of the world’s largest land migrations.

Arrive at your camp late this afternoon with time to freshen up before climbing to the top of the camps Kopje for stunning 360 degree views of the Serengeti. Relax with your preferred drink as you watch the setting sun paint the Serengeti with pinks, oranges and reds.
Accommodation is offered in twelve double tents which are scattered around the main Kopje. Each tent is attended by a personal butler and has en-suite facilities with hot and cold running water. Private verandah’s with comfortable furnishings extend in front of each unit.
The dining area, lounge and library are housed in the main area, which affords spectacular views from its wooden deck and the adjacent kopje.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Sanctuary Kusini Tented Camp

DAY 3
Kusini Camp is ideally placed to catch the migration that can be found in this area of the park from mid Dec – April when the Zebra and Wildebeest drop their young. You may choose to spend the morning in search of wildebeest or alternatively enjoy a specialised cheetah watch game drive as the area around Kusini is famed for it’s cheetah.
Whilst at Kusini you have the chance to contribute to the Serengeti Cheetah project whose aim is to monitor the cheetah of this vast eco system. The camps expert driver/guide will take you out on a morning game drive to track cheetah and monitor their behaviour.
The photos from your sightings will then be combined with the record of
their location and sent to the research
centre. In return the project will provide you with a detailed back ground of your cheetah, it’s history and its
family. Following lunch at the camp you may like to spend the afternoon relaxing on your veranda with your favourite book or return the plains for an afternoon game drive in search of buffalo and Lion.

Return to your camp this evening to freshen up before dinner. Following
dinner this evening retire to the Kopjie where you may take this rare
opportunity to enjoy a cosmic safari as the camp manager unravels the myths of the night sky.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Overnight: Sanctuary Kusini Tented Camp

Day 4
Awake this morning to the sounds of the birds as you are served a cup of tea or coffee on the private verandah of your tent. You may choose to relax at camp or venture out for one last game drive in the Serengeti before your departure at mid morning. Kusini will return you to the airstrip for your onward flight to Kilimanjaro via Arusha. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro connect with your onward flight.
