Off the north Queensland coast, the Whitsunday Islands are amongst the most remote and beautiful islands you’re ever likely to find – and Woodwark Bay is an appropriately elegant and luxurious outpost of comfort, proudly setting 21st-century standards at the very end of the world. Set in 4,000 acres of secluded paradise, this property is set around a high-gabled main house, with living and dining rooms furnished with deep sofas and surrounded by broad verandas with stunning views. The inviting swimming pool (heated on request) enjoys the shady shelter of the roof and it is ringed by terraces with daybeds, an outdoor kitchen and bar. Guest accommodation is 5 thatched huts. Dream House overlooks the bay with an en-suite shower and kitchenette, while Pebble House, with a galley kitchen and pavilion bathroom, is ideal for families, accommodating four to eight guests. The Siamese Hut comprises two huts joined by a raised deck with outdoor shower, and there is an ultimately private Honeymoon Hut. All are fully air-conditioned, thatched, with either twin or king-sized beds.
There’s also an office with computer, DVD, VHS and satellite TV, but also 60 miles of road passing through the exotic fauna of this wonderful property, 50,000 acres of National Park, a private lake for waterskiing and fishing, waterfalls and picnic huts, all gloriously isolated.
OPINION
We think this wonderful property is about as close as you’ll get to the Robinson-Crusoe dream, though updated with quad bikes, waterskiing boats and satellite tv as well as plenty of Man Fridays to wait on your every need. For families or groups of friends, this is the perfect long-haul getaway.
ACCOMMODATION
Four double bedrooms, two twin/kingsize bedrooms, one twin bedroom with extra trundle bed and two loft single beds. Maximum 14 adults and six children.
STAFF
Fully staffed, with house manager, maid service six days a week, and a full-time cook, who will prepare three meals a day. Food is included, alcoholic beverages extra.
.DISTANCES
Private jet charter can be arranged and Woodwark Bay has its own helipad. Air taxis operate from Hamilton Island to Shute Harbour (10 minutes) followed by a 20-minute drive to Woodwark Bay. Alternatively, it is a 25 minute drive from Proserpine Airport.
