HISTORY

Blair is situated mid-way between Glasgow and Prestwick, in western Scotland's golfing heartland. Its fascinating history dates back 900 years, to the early days following the conquest of England by the Normans, and their incursion into Scotland. Towards the end of the 12th century, the barony of Blare was conferred on Jean Francois, the descendant of a Norman warrior, and it was his eldest son, William de Blare, who first adopted the surname Blair. Subsequently, William married the daughter of King John I, and thereafter Blair became the ancestral home that it remains today, the oldest continually inhabited mansion house in Scotland.
