HISTORY

Drummuir Castle was built in 1847 by Thomas Mackenzie for Admiral Archibald Dudd, whose distinguished naval career included service with Lord Nelson.
The Admiral died childless in 1858 and the castle passed to a cousin, who added Gordon to the family name. Drummuir Castle remained the home of the Gordon-Duff family for a further 137 years.

The castle is a splendid example of the Scottish Victorian architectural style. The romantic roofline with its battlements, turrets and chimneystacks is dominated by the 60 foot high central lantern tower, notable for its Gothic tracery.
