HISTORY
Dundas is one of Scotland's most historic Castles. The Auld Keep was built in 1406 and extended in 1416 under a licence from King James I of Scotland. Hugh Dundas joined William Wallace in the defence of his country, his son George fought under Robert the Bruce and was slain in the Battle of Duplin in 1332. The estates of Dundas were forfeited to the Crown in 1449 but restored to Sir Archibald Dundas who was a favourite of King James II and III.
Oliver Cromwell is known to have visited Dundas and a statue of him can be seen at the entrance to the Auld Keep. The modern Castle was built by James Dundas in 1818 and was designed by the famous architect William Burn. Dundas has been in the ownership of the Stewart-Clark family since the beginning of the last century and has been completely restored and modernised by the present Baronet, Sir Jack Stewart-Clark and his wife, Lydia.
