The land and people are gentle and welcoming, echoing a bygone pace of life within a region rich in history and culture. Resting beside the beautiful Charente river are found the historical towns of Angouleme, Saintes and Cognac with the west coast beaches and the old cosmopolitan town of La Rochelle only an hour away. There are local markets and chateaux to explore, and pleasant afternoons can be spent in the discovery of delicate local wines and Pineau, a delicious cognac-inspired aperitif.
