Beautiful and extensive grounds amounting to 57 acres surround this romantic, very private, 17th century chateau. There are woods, meadows, lavender fields and many mature trees including figs that surround the unusual heated pool, which is fed by a cascading fountain. Built around a courtyard, the square towers rise high at either end of the main facade while the reception rooms all lead onto terraces and gardens. Breakfast can be eaten at your leisure while taking in the breathtaking views of the rolling Quercy countryside. The interior has been decorated to compliment the surroundings. The Salon is panelled with carved boiseries, incorporating a library and monumental fireplace. The new kitchen, with barrel-vaulted ceiling, is fully fitted and spacious. There is a chef on the premises ready to prepare dinner, allowing you to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The French chef trained in Paris and was a restaurateur before joining the staff at Chateau Combecave; he can prepare from the simple meal to the most elaborate dinners, for which he often earns applause! The bedrooms are all decorated to a high standard and are tranquil and relaxing. The rooms are cool in summer, although they can be warmed efficiently in winter with central heating and log fires. The region's medieval heritage is visible everywhere; the countryside is full of chateaux and fortified villages and the Chateau de Combecave itself is on the medieval pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
