Built by Carthusian monks , this magnificent manor house has been beautifully restored. Original features and Provenal fabrics have been combined with the latest comforts, with underfloor heating throughout, air-conditioning for every bedroom, seven cordless telephones and the latest professional equipment for both kitchens. Occupying the greater part of an island on the Rhone, the property is surrounded by terraces and four acres of landscaped grounds, with a kitchen garden, 15m x 7m swimming pool, private mile-long driveway and a barn with space to park seven cars. Though secluded, Avignon, Orange and Villeneuve-les-Avignon are less than 15 minutes away. Accommodation is in the manor house and guest house. The main house has a stately living room opening to a terrace, and a vast summer salon with vaulted ceilings, where a sweeping staircase rising over a library, with large fireplace, to a mezzanine level containing a wet bar, internet point and American billiards table. There is also an elegant winter salon, dining room and kitchen. There are five luxurious double/twin bedrooms, all en-suite, on the first floor in the main house. The guest house has two doubles and a bathroom which are more simple and suitable for staff or teenagers.

OPINION

Close to Avignon but on a secluded Rhone island, this stately home would be a wonderful place for or unforgettable holidays for all ages.

Maid service six hours a day, payable locally. Estate manager lives on the property and can arrange chefs, laundry service, chauffeur on request.
