Historic stately home Antiques and art Domed sun lounge Villa Controni is an enchanting 17th century Luccese villa with its own chapel, antique camellia garden and extraordinary fountains, set in a stunning estate of hill-terraced olive groves. Within its golden lime-washed faade are beautifully proportioned rooms, furnished with antiques, original works of art and glittering chandeliers. There is a large drawing room, a frescoed dining room with fireplace, a fully-equipped Tuscan kitchen and a glorious, domed sun lounge with double doors leading out to an arched loggia with table and chairs for outdoor dining. It has six large and spacious double bedrooms, four en-suite and two sharing a bathroom, and one of which has a small single adjoining: ideal for families with young children. In this period property all guest bedrooms are individually furnished and decorated, rich in character, and with wonderful views over Lucca, Nottolini's aqueduct and the tree lined avenue of the equestrian centre. Outside, formal gardens are dotted with countless ancient fountains, sculptures and features, as well as a large floodlit swimming pool, scented with lavender and terracotta pots of flowers. Children are permitted, but not pets or smoking indoors.

OPINION

This glorious property epitomises the grace and elegance of a Italian aristocratic living. There is an impressive wine cellar for the connoisseurs among us.

Six double bedrooms. Maximum 12 guests.

STAFF

Two housekeepers six days a week. Chef available to prepare breakfasts and either lunch or dinner, six days a week. Wine sommelier, babysitters, massage, laundry on request.
