Villa di Anqua is a stately mansion set on a Tuscan hillside situated along 5km of un-made road, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, with spectacular views. The main villa is part of the old hamlet and is set amongst other rural buildings, some of which are occupied by the estate workers. The entrance is through a courtyard, with an old well, and a profusion of flowers, with arched walls leading into the large, beautifully maintained gardens, the 15m x 7m swimming pool and shady areas. Stairs lead up to the first floor level where three interlinked living rooms are lined with portraits of the property's ancestral owners and beautiful frescoed ceilings, all beautifully furnished with polished floors and sturdy, rustic antique furnishings including a dining hall seating 12 people. On this level there are two double en-suite bedrooms, another double and two twin bedrooms. Stairs lead up to the second floor where there is a large dining room and laundry with washing machine, a further dining room with table for six and a kitchen with dishwasher, also seating six. There is also a bathroom and twin bedroom.

The house is fitted with telephone, TV and stereo and simply but tastefully furnished.

OPINION

This superb 16th Century castle offers character accommodation in a charming region. The frescoed ceilings and ancestral portraits cannot fail to enchant, but at the same time its glorious gardens and large pool make it a perfect place for children.

ACCOMMODATION

Three double bedrooms, three twins. Maximum 12 guests.

STAFF

Maid service eight hours a day, five days a week. Linen change once a week.
