Reconstructed from a 19th Century water-mill, this wonderful building has retained many of the original features, with decoration and furnishings based on 18th Century Portugal, with many antiques and paintings. The main entrance hall and main living room, with fireplace, satellite TV and views, is on the second floor, with the house tiered below towards the river. Stairs lead down to the first floor, with a living room, the master bedroom with original tiled Jacuzzi bathroom and private balcony, as well as four further bedrooms, one double with single bedroom off, one twin and two doubles, all en-suite and all opening onto a terrace, leading across the lawned gardens to the a 14m x 7m jet-stream swimming pool, pool house with summer kitchen and spacious sunbathing terraces. Below this is the ground floor level, with one double and two twin bedrooms, all en-suite. There is a slight drop in levels from the bedrooms of this floor to the public areas, with a highlight being a glass-floored living room, with the river flowing below, a traditional kitchen and a formal dining room seating 20. The rooms on this level open to a patio with river views, an outdoor dining area with barbeque, and a tiled outdoor living room.

OPINION
At the heart of the Alentejo, Moinho do Alamo is a small working farm of 12 hectares. Truly perfect for families with children - bicycles, children's toys, paddling pool, doll house and a small pony carriage, ideal for kids, are all available for guests' use.

ACCOMMODATION
Five double bedrooms, three twin rooms. Maximum 15 guests.

Resident couple five days a week. Concierge supplement also available.
