This wonderful villa faces south over its own gardens, white sandy beach and warm Indian Ocean surf – boogie boards are provided. For quieter swimming, there is a large pool, shaded by palm trees.
An enclosed sitting room leads onto the front terrace with comfortable lounging seats looking over across the Indian Ocean. Dining is al fresco, on the broad veranda. Three bedrooms are set in the main house, all en-suite, while the single bedroom is housed with its private bathroom in its own garden cottage.
Tangalla itself is fairly typical; dusty and noisy but with Buddhist temples to rival Dambulla in the region and Hindu temples nearby at Kataragama. Best of all, perhaps, the area is little discovered by westerners and despite a few new hotels you’ll generally be one of the few visitors holidaying in this beautiful part of the world.
OPINION
In our opinion, this villa would be ideal for families or groups of friends travelling together. Currents here can be strong so children must be supervised, but there is always the swimming pool, constantly cool in its shady grove. The Beach House is a four to five hour drive from Colombo, but it is always possible to break your journey in Galle or elsewhere, and is rewarding just to get beyond the crowds. Tangalla – and the Beach House - is well worth the journey.
