A perfect opportunity to appreciate the power of the Pacific Ocean, as well as our insignificant, yet transcendental presence as a human being in this environment. Just before dinner we will have an “Experience Get-Together”, get to know the guide team and prepare for the next day’s activities. If you want to sleep like angels in heaven, treat yourself to a relaxing dip in your private, open air Hot Tub, looking for shooting stars and the delicate sound of the Pacific Ocean whispering in your ears.

ENJOYING THE EXPERIENCE AT THE PRES ERVE

Full Breakfast is available in the lodge from 7:30 am and the day’s activities begin at 9:30 am with a short trekking

Pudu Trail

Located approximately one kilometer to the west of the Lodge, beyond the road to the Marina, we will find Pudu Trail, a trek located in the coastal area of the Cliffs Preserve. This easy trek will lead us to one of the most magnificent view -points on this broken geography, surrounded by amazing combinations of breathtaking views of Native Forest and the Pacific Ocean. This trail represents a unique opportunity to see the striking scenery and its diversity: the resident flora and fauna as well as a variety of marine birds that inhabit this part of the world. If we’re lucky, we may even be able to see the endangered “Chungungo”, Chilean Sea Otter. This trek will bring us back to the Lodge just in time for a magnificent lunch, some time to contemplate the sea, and prepare for the afternoon activity: Horseback Riding.
Horseback riding at Forest Grove Trail
After initial instruction and assuring that everyone is comfortable on their rides, we’ll head out from the Lodge to the north, passing by The Cliffs Preserve stables and on to the Forest Grove Trail; a trail that takes us deep into the Valdivian temperate rainforest, a mix of the humid and coastal environments due its proximity to the sea. We will be surprised by the diversity of plant species and birds, the relationship of elements and environments delicately intertwined. The Chucao (Scelorchilus Rubecula) and the Booby (Sula Variegata) will fight to catch the attention of the passer-by: the first one with its singing and the second with its incredible accuracy diving into the water for prey. Two worlds united by a variety of species populating the space of the Cliffs Preserve. On our way back to the Lodge, well cool the horses down with a gentle gallop or canter along the ocean’s edge on the main beach! Take the rest of the afternoon to kick back and contemplate the world from the terrace of you villa, or per haps go for a swim in the Lodge’s heated pool. Before dinner – during your “Experience Get-Together”- don’t forget to request your Pisco Sour (a very typical Chilean cocktail made with Pisco, a local spirit distilled from grapes).
Organic Farm Tour
It’s a short ride up to The Organic Garden to visit to with our staff to learn how local farmers work these fertile grounds. You’ll be accompanied by one of The Cliffs Preserve chefs, who will share with you the flavours, essences and aroma of all the Garden offers, as well as helping you choose your very own selection of vegetables to use in preparing this evenings culinary adventure! This evening we’ll share an informal cocktail hour. A great opportunity to share stories of experiences lived with new acquaintances.
Trekking at Galileo Trail
Beginning from the Lodge, we’ll walk a long the main road of The Cliffs Preserve and shortly detour to the South -West, crossing a nearby bridge: Galileo Trail, a trek that combines bamboo forest with a diversity of arborous species like Olivillo Costero (Aextoxicon Punctatum), Coigüe of Chiloé (Nothofagus Nitida) and Canelo (Drimys Winteri), amongst others, all part of the impressive view to the coast from the trails. Resident birds, the Chucao (Scelorchilus Rubecula) and Huet- Huet (Pteroptochos Tarnii), will surely make their presence known along the trail. After breaking out of the forest and a short walk through a sea of giant Nalca leaves, we will trek along a wondrous beach of wave -polished rocks, each of which has its own story. Our final destination this afternoon is the Garganta Del Diablo (The Devil’s Throat), a unique geological marine phenomina! A quick dip in the pool, followed by a relaxing sauna or steam bath, is the perfect prelude to another evening of fantastic fare prepared by The Cliffs Preserve team!

SURPRINSING BY THE SOURROUNDINGS

We have a long distance trail on tap for today; Have a good breakfast and don’t forget to fill your water bottle. Olivillos Trail Starting at the Lodge, we head northeast, crossing the bridge providing access to the Olivillos Trail. From the beginning, this trek takes us deep into the forest, its major attractive being the longevity and diversity of dominant vegetative species, like Olivillos (Aextoxicon Puctatum), Luma (Luma Apiculata), and Coigüe of Chiloe (Nothofagus Nitida), amongst others. All of them dominate the view to the coast from the highest point within The Cliffs Preserve. Resident birds like the chucao and Huet -Huet will be present on this trail until we head towards the West, arriving to Ortiga Beach. Scenery will change as we start our way back to the lodge walking along the coastal border. Sea Birds such as the Pelican (Pelecanus Thagus), Booby (Sula Variegata), Sanderlings (Calidris Alba) and Cormorants (Phalacrocorax sp) can be seen in this amazing scenario. Keep your eyes on the surf, it’s not unusual see Toninos (Chilean Dolphins) running in the waves. This is an ideal trail for those who want to walk a longer distance and observe the wildlife, vegetation and the coast of The Cliffs Preserve. Weat her permitting we’ll have a special picnic lunch waiting for us, right on the Ortiga Beach Quenuir Town Trip Our first view outside the preserve will be a short trip that will transport us to the past, to the purest beauty of simplicity, and the struggle of mankind for his daily sustenance together with the ocean and Mother Nature. We’ll head out of the Preserve towards Quenuir, a fishing village 25 minutes from The Cliffs Preserve.

FULL DAY HORSEBACK

Puma Trail:

Leaving from The Cliffs Preserve Stables we will ride towards to southeast before heading into the forest toward the Southern limit of The Cliff Preserve. We will go deep into the forest for approximately one hour, feeling the rhythm and strength of the animals, accompanied by expert huasos, local cowboys, keeping us company through the evergreen forest and leading the way to an old, turn of the century, country house. The country house was once used by the tenant farmers for lodging; however, today the house is just a shell due to the passing of time and the inclemency of the weather in Patagonia. After a short refreshment stop next to the house, in a wondrous grove of ancient cypress planted by the original homesteaders, we will continue to Molino Beach, a beautiful beach which constitutes the s outhern limit of The Cliffs Preserve. Along this beach we will meet lugeros, local people working on extracting a type of seaweed called Luga. After heading up a small hill, our excursion ends with a marvelous look-out view of the Maullin River as it empties into the immensity of the Pacific Ocean. For your final dinner, The Cliffs Preserve staff has prepared a menu and activities specially planned to bring together the best of your experience.

REST & GOOD BYE TO THE PRESERVE

Depending on flight schedules, today you can spend some time relaxing or walking around the lodge, take a massage or visit our gift shop. Time permitting, you can experience other fascinating activities around Patagonia that include lake and volcano visits, patrimonial churches visits, architectural and neighboring communities tours, before heading to the airport.
